In the second half of the eighteenth century, the so-called industrial revolution also affects Gragnano, thanks to the manufacture of macaroni, which here finds the optimal conditions for drying pasta, carried out in the streets in front of the pasta factories. The whole of the 19th century is a succession of firsts, from the number of long pasta factories, which reaches and exceeds one hundred, to the first exports to all world markets, also favored by the opening of one of the first railways in Italy.
The Pastificio D’Aniello, located in Gragnano in via Roma, 23 is located inside the historic ALFONSO GAROFALO factory, now considered industrial archeology.
