There is nothing more symbolic of the Amalfi Coast than Italian, hand crafted ceramics. The artisans of the Amalfi Coast have been producing ceramics since at least the 15th century. Others claim that the art can be traced to Romans when many wealthy Roman Senators and dignitaries owned summer homes on the Coast. By the 18th Century, the town of Vietri sul Mare had emerged as a leader in the ceramic arts field. This industry began to draw hundreds of artists to the region, catalysing the production of ceramics for both practical and aesthetic purposes up and down the coast.
